I am using Diga! and would like to view color weather maps. Unfortunatly
the Diga! manual does not go into length on much of anything. It assumes
the user knows which end is up, which I don't. Can you help me with this.
Perhalps there is a program I can download for this purpose.

We don't have an Amiga terminal program that provides for viewing graphics
while you are online. Since you can download it as fast as you could view
it anyway, we recommend that you just download it, then unarc and view it
while the next thing is being downloaded. Multitasking is a great thing!

If the color weather maps are RLE encoded, you can use the program called
AHOST, which is available as AHOST.ZOO in LIB 5 of this forum. It's very
limited as a terminal, but I recently tried it out on the RLE Stock Charts
in GO TREND, and it did function OK.

David, I believe that RLE is only black and white, is it not? Or
monochrome at best? I know that one of our club members wrote a program
that would translate IFF to RLE, and made some remarks about putting so
much effort into translating his beautiful color pics to black and white
only.

I honestly don't know whether RLE graphics are color or B&W, since I don't
personaly use them. I only mentioned it because I had just tried the
program for a stock trend to answer another user's question. The AHOST
program isn't anywhere near a full-featured terminal program, but it did
receive the RLE graphics OK. Is there a commercial program that will do
the weather maps that you know about? (I just checked my admittedly old
copy of the CIS guide. All that's described are the b&w weather maps,
which I'd guess to be RLE.)

RLE is at best a very limited gray scale graphics standard. It's suitable
for line drawings, but anything more complicated is just too much for it to
cope with. Weather maps changed over to GIF format several years ago.
