Has anyone else out there tried AMOS from the UK? I have gotten the latest version 1.2 and really like this language Seems there is a lot more that could be done with this other than just arcade games. Just wondering if anyone else has tried it out yet.

Douglas, I've tried (and still use) AMOS for about 3 months now. It *really* is a powerfull programming environment! I've done 'bobs', 'sprites' and (not least) hardware screen scrollings so easily that I've quit 'C' entirely for graphics and related programming. Now I use 'C' only for utilities and system related programming. Have you tried the AMAL part of AMOS?? (This brings the other basics back to AmigaBasic! 🙂 ). Tell me how you like it. And yes, it's more than for just arcade games. Francois (the author) created some pretty good utilities with it… like the config program and some music conversion programs too. BTW, I called Mandarin Software (in UK) about 2 weeks ago and they say that the sales are going way higher than expected (much higher than STOS) and that the compiler should be out within 2 months!! (boy, that's going to hurt!! (grin)) . Also they are talking about the 3D Amos which will allow you to create games (or utilities!) like StarGlider II etc.. Release expected whithin 2 to 3 months. I'm looking forward to some amazing stuff with AMOS. – Rej –

Well, it sounds like someone else out there likes AMOS at least as much as I do. 🙂 Yes, AMAL is very nice and I do look forward to the compiler, and even more, the 3D package! This will really slow down my learning of 'C' even more, and it hasn't been too fast here lately! 🙂 I think CBM should really think about giving a copy of AMOS out with every new Amiga sold and just drop the AmigaBASIC.

That a marvelous idea Douglas, I'd wonder what they'd say if someone suggested it to them? Glad to have found a new AMOS user (at last…someone who understand it's power!! (grin) I'm still amazed by it!).. If you feel like exchanging programs or ideas, let me know… (you should see the modifications I made to the scrolling demo that came with the extra disk!) Rejean

What I am really impressed by is the fact that AMOS runs just fine under AmigaDOS 2.0 on this A3000! That is more that can be said for AmigaBASIC. Something I would love to see is some more AMOS prgrams up on CompuServe that people can look at and try with RAMOS. I think if more people saw what it could do, there would be a lot more interest! I agree with you Douglas and I'm *very* happy to learn that AMOS works fine with OS 2.0 *and* a 68030 (I'm about to get one for my A500!). I may download my demo shortly when I'm done redoing some stuff I borrowed from a program on one of the disks that came with Amos. Rej

Hello, I've used AMOS but I haven't had as much luck as you have. A program I wrote works fine on my 1MB A500, but I uploaded it to another system (2 different versions) and they couldn't get it to run on an A2000. It locks up when it displays the Bobs. Do you have the PAL version (or actually is there an NTSC version available) ? Since I don't know anyone with more than an A500, you can see it is definitely a problem to troubleshoot.

I think there's only a PAL version that allows semi NTSC compatibility. They told me that they are working on a better support of NTSC as they have good sales here in North America (I'm from Canada). I've tried my programs on a 500 with and without the Obese agnus, with 1 to 3 megs, and also on a 1000 with 512k only. *My demo* works on these machine as well as my new 030/33 Mega Midget Racer! *But* some programs that came with Amos won't work with the 030!!! (I haven't located where the problem comes from yet, and probably contact Mandarin about it). BTW John, you have to realize that Amos required a lot of special files in order to work! When you uploaded your programs, what did the receiving system use when they were running them?? – Rej –

I appreciate your replying so quickly, thanks. I even took an entire disk and zipped it up and uploaded it and even with all the correct files it still wouldn't work. Like I said, the problem is I don't even have access to a 2000 or 1000 so I can't do a thing to try to modify it. Maybe I'll try it again with a different language like Hisoft or GFA Basic. Do you know anything about these ?

John, It's funny because AMOS is supposed to work on *Any* Amiga that is not transformed. So, if you're giving your programs, including Amos, or RAMOS (which has to be installed on a floppy using the RAmos_Install programs that comes with Amos) then your programs should work fine. Strange indeed. Yes, I know about GFA and Hisoft, I still have Hisoft Basic although I don't know if it's the latest ver. As for GFA, I returned it cause there was some bugs (like Inkey$ which would work). There's got to be something you can do about Amos though… here, I have an idea… Upload your program to me and I'll try it (If you don't mind of course (grin)). This way, it's going to give us an idea for starters. Rej

How do I upload it to you individually ? I'm new around here so I don't have a full grasp of this system, but I'd definitely be happy to let you have a shot at it.
