CD-ROM Changer SCSI-compatability problem under DEC VAX/VMS
Hi,
The Pioneer DRM-600 CD-ROM Changer doesn't work with VAX/VMS.
I tried that with a CD-ROM produced by DEC of-course.
I tried a VAXstation 3100 with a generic SCSI interface and got
"fatal drive error" when trying to mount the device under VMS V5.3
(illegal mode sense).
I tried a microVAXII with a CMD CQD200TM Q-Bus adapter and got
"volume is not software enabled" after several minutes when trying
to mount the device under VMS V5.4.
Writing a simple program (VMS-pass-thru-SCSI via allocate)
to do a SCSI inquiry command didn't work:
DMA error: odd byte count (in $analyse/error)!
Unfortunaltely the DRM-600 returns 59 bytes of inquiry data.
The $SHOW DEVICE shows a RRD40 device CD-ROM reader.
Anbybody with the same SCSI-problems? Please contact

Sounds like the VAX is expecting 512 byte sectors, and barfing on the DRM's
2k sector size. If you can't change the driver, Pioneer will be releasing
new firmware that fakes 512 byte sectors. Contact your dealer. Cris
