SaxonScript

Let me just jump in on this SaxonScript discussion. I wish I could say my
opinion of the program is as favorable as others, but I can't. The
SaxsonScript PostScript interpreter often GURU's on me.
The program supplies it's own version of the standard PostScript fonts, but
does not supply the Amiga bitmap versions of those fonts. So how are you
supposed to use these fonts from a program like ProWrite? It's font
conversion capabilitiy does not allow you to convert from the Saxon format
to bitmap format.
I have yet to be able to convert PostScript fonts to bitmap fonts. The
program runs and generates the font directory. I run FixFonts to generate
the .font file. When I try to display the font in any program, it displays
blank. When I looked at the individual files in the font directory, they
were mostly NULL's. The font conversion program is workbench only so there
is no way to set up an ARexx EXEC to convert fonts etc. A big limitation
IMHO.
I have been using Post and PostDJ for a while and will stick with those.
The font conversion utilities work and Post produces excellent output.
To be fair to SaxonScript, it's output is better then Post, not by much but
it is noticeable. You can get around the font conversion problems by using
PD equivalents, but the GURU's mean that SaxonScript stays on my shelf not
on my harddisk. The exact same ProWrite produced PostScript file prints
fine with Post, but GURU's with SaxonScript. -=Martin=-
