#ATOP Amiga/386SX/20
4 messages in this thread
Hey JR:
How would you like to go ona field trip with me next to visit ATOP, the
company in Painesville that is making the 386SX/20 boards for the Amiga?
I spoke with them today and they said "come on down". There demo machine
is an A3000 with the A2286 and their modification to make it run as a 386SX
at 20Mhz. If you'd like to drive out with me some time next week, drop me
a note.

Even though I have already sold my XT Bridgeboard, I'd still like
to take tthe journey out of sheer curiousity and doubt that the Bridgeboard
can be sped up THAT much (I love to be proven wrong).
Next week is lousy; we're right in the middle of shooting two
movies, after which time I'll be editing. We're also going to a convention
in New York to sell tapes as well. The earliest I'd be able to make such a
trip would be late January. I'll understand if you don't want to wait that
long. Thanks for asking.

Actually, they don't speed the board up, they do what CBM should have done
a long time ago: they replace the 8286 chip (or whatever the A2286 uses)
with a 386SX chip and run it at 20 Mhz. So don't feel bad… the
modification can only be done on an AT bridgeboard, not an XT.
(BTW: Creative Computers quoted me $449, or something like that, yesterday
for a new A2286 Bridegboard.)
If I don't get out there next week as I'm planning, I'll let you know.
Good luck with the Shoot & edit… what's this one? Have you considered a
film about CBM, USA? …maybe something along the line of "MARKETING DROIDS
FROM HELL"?

"Maximum Impact" is a Bronson-esque revenge flick; "Chickboxer" is
a fluffy drippy sappy teenage goofball comedy (note: I'm producing, that's
all!). Be out in February.
No plans for a Commodore horror film anytime soon; but if you want
good CBM horror stories, just look around CIS…I'm sure there are plenty
of them. 🙂
