Posted to comp.sys.amiga.announce by: sue@cbmvax.cbm.commodore.com (Sue West – CATS) December 3, 1992 TO: All Amiga Users FROM: Commodore Business Machines, Inc., Marketing Department 1200 Wilson Drive West Chester, PA 19380 Commodore Business Machines, Inc. was recently surprised that the magazine NEW MEDIA 1993 Multimedia Tool Guide (November issue date) omitted covering any information on Amiga product. Perhaps NEW MEDIA is not aware just how many Multimedia users own and respect Amiga product for their diverse uses? And . . . perhaps itwould be beneficial for NEW MEDIA to have our users tell them about Amiga and its Multimedia capabilities. For comments to NEW MEDIA, you can write to: David Bunnell, Editor in Chief New Media Magazine 901 Mariner's Island Blvd. Suite 365 San Mateo, CA 94404 Phone: (415) 573-5170 FAX: (415) 573-5131 — Read all administrative posts before putting your post up. Comments to zerkle@cs.ucdavis.edu.MAIL ALL COMP.SYS.AMIGA.ANNOUNCE ANNOUNCEMENTS TO announce@cs.ucdavis.edu. —— Denny notes: One thing to keep in mind if you DO write Mr. Bunnell is that New Media normally DOES cover the Amiga in regular issues of their magazine, so it's doubly surprising to see the complete lack of mention in the multimedia guide special.

You know Denny, even though we can get on the bandwagon and flood New Media magazine with hate mail, I'm not sure it should be the users job to do so. Did CBM regularly advertise in this magazine? Did they send them press announcements or equipment for review? If not, then I feel it's CBM's own fault for being left out of the guide special. John – K7KB (Flying via AutoPilot)

John, I'm certain CBM has contacted New Media. (They let _me_ know when they're not happy about something in COMPUTE. 🙂 But reader letters are more effective than advertiser whining. How is it CBM's own fault if they do send them press announcements and equipment for review? Huh? (I'm certain they do. CBM's PR dept has gotten quite good in the last year or so.) Don't be so quick to blame Commodore. Philip Robinson was one of the primary authors in that multimedia guide, BTW. Hmmmm…

I think by now Mr. Robinson is probably locked into his mindset… Many of these mags ignore the Amiga. Partly, it may be that no one offers to write for them. The last article I saw in New Media was by Mark Brown. He praised the A4000 with faint damns, I would say. He spent so much time being "fair" by pointing out things "missing," that by the time you finished you said, "ho, hum…" And this from a former publisher of an Amiga specific mag!

John, In my opinion, "hate mail" is not what is called for. Well thought out, politely stated, comment on the omission is needed. As for your other statement, "Did CBM regularly advertise in this magazine?" — well, if _any_ magazine bases their reviews and/or editorial comment upon who is spending how much for advertising in their magazine it is a magazine that I want to know about — so I don't accidently purchase it to add to the coffers of a highly biased and unethical rag. -sja
