#A-500 upgrade question

I'm just curious (before I get really ticked off):
Is this new AGA chip set or system or whatever it is going to be made
available for the 500? Or have I once again been left in the dust?

David,
Commodore has once again done what we all demand that they do – improve
the Amiga. In order to make improvements, they have to make new computers
that do things the old ones cannot do. No matter what computer you buy,
there will be newer and better ones available in a few months, and yours
will be less capable than the new ones. And yes – the AGA chips will not
be available for your 500 nor for my 2500 nor for the 3000 machines that
many of our users have. But they will work in newer, more capable, and
faster Amigas that are keeping up with the changes in technology.

David … like me, I'm afraid you're going to be left behind.
It's really very simple, if a bit frustrating to existing Amiga owners (not
just 500 owners) … if Commodore had chosen to make the AGA chip set
compatible with existing machines, then the capabilities would have had to
be severely restricted and there would have been no point in producing it.
It's a bit like buying a 4-cylinder-engine car, then finding out that
there's now a 6-cylinder-engine version and wanting to upgrade your old car
… only to find that there's physically no way that the engine will fit.
The only way they could have made an upgrade is to give you one with only
4-cylinders, which defeats the object of the upgrade.
Sorry … it's not a very good analogy.
Putting it another way … they've had to build the Amiga slightly
differently to allow them to add the extra features of the AGA chip set and
therefore, by definition, you can't upgrade existing machines.
