#DataTax for Amiga
4 messages in this thread
Well, folks, it's almost tax time! And does anyone know the
whereabouts of our friends at DataTax? They used to be "Tax Break"
under OXXI, but they broke off a couple of years ago. They've been
producing the ONLY Amiga tax program, similar to TurboTax in the
Dos/Mac world. This year was supposed to be their best ever… but
now, their phone is disconnected. I'd appreciate any information you
Amiga users can provide!
Thanks… John McCollister, Chicago
After suffering through two editions of "Tax Break" that were supposed
to be vast improvements over previous editions, I'm going to just
write a spreadsheet to do the grinding. I used Tax Break for doing
the math on returns I prepare, and I found many quirks. They had the
incorrect minimum age for claiming a dependent, it automatically did
things it shouldn't, and it totally bombed on the new two-tiered
social security structuring. DataTax should be written off as a
loss.
If you have a Bridgeboard, look into TurboTax. I've used it for several
years, and have found it to be excellent – and it gets better every year.
I sure wish it were available for the Amiga.
I used their program last year. I had to call them up this summer,
tried for a couple of weeks and finally I got somebody who just happened
to be in. I wouldn't be suprised if they didn't hook their phone back up
until later.
