#Genlock Help!

I really need some help. I teach a computer graphics course at a small
private high school with a very small budget. We have been given two Amiga
2000s with 030 cards, 7Meg RAM, and 80Meg Hard Drives, and a Rockgen Plus
genlock. We have been able to budget for 2 step frame VCRs and 2 composite
monitors for next year but here's the catch.
The Rockgen plus RGB IN and RGB THRU ports are standard Amiga RGB size…
but we have C=filcker free display cards in the video slots and their
output is the smaller RGB port.
I don't want to loose the flicker free RGB display at high res, but I do
want to use the full capabilities of the Genlock.
Can I simply get an adapter cable for each end of the RGB on the GenLock or
will I run into some display problems?
2) Can anyone give me suggestions on how to best save real time generated
animations from DPaint, VistaPro 2, and FractalPro5.0? I have a tight
budget! Thnxs for your help.

May I suggest that you post your questions in AmigaArts? We have many
people who participate regularly on that forum, and who are professionals
in this area. AmigaTech attracts more of the programmer types, many of
whom do little with the graphics and video talents of the Amiga other than
to write programs for them. I think you will find more people who can
help you in AmigaArts.

Betty, unfortunately, I have left a message several times in several
different parts of the Arts forum and in a month no one has answered my
question or even acknowledged my existence I have given up on ever getting
an answer there!

I've seen your messages, and even have one of them on HOLD in Autopilot,
but since I'm not a video expert I didn't want to risk giving you
potentially bad information – especially since we have so many video
experts in the forum.
Here's my best shot at your problem:
Based on my understanding of what you're asking to do (which may be
incorrect): having both the genlock signal and flicker removal at the same
time is mutually exclusive. The NTSC signal is by definition an
interlaced signal, and thus the genlocked output from the Rockgen is also
an interlaced signal. In order to do what you ask, someone would have to
make a de-interlacing device that would plug into the genlock's output,
but then you wouldn't have an NTSC compatible signal to record. – Catch
22.
If your monitors are multisync type instead of fixed frequency, you could
use 15-23 pin adapters and attach them to the Rockgen output, and then add
a VGA monitor switch to switch between the Amiga output and the genlock
output. But, you would get interlaced video, complete with flicker, at
the genlock output port. – again, Catch 22.
As far as low-budget animation storage, if they're going to be less that
20 megs, you might consider one of the available SCSI floptical drives.

I'm sorry you have had problems getting an answer. This is really
unusual, since most questions get several answers within 24 hours of
posting. I can only guess that many others, like me, did not know the
answer to your particular question.
