Robin, that 100K can come from Extended memory instead of high or
conventional memry if you are not using a program like Desqview. Use the
MSCDEX /E switch.

Yes, I am using /E with my current, single-disc, setup. What I need to know
is how much more memory does the -604x take compared with single-disc.

FYI, the Extensions memory usage for buffers when using the /E switch is
~15K system memory (+ a small amount for each drive letter) + 8 KB per
drive letter of EMS (that Expanded memory, not Extended memory).

Thanks Chris. In my machine MSCDEX uses 16,128 bytes of high memory and
256 bytes of conventional memory when I use the QEMM LOADHI command and the
/E switch.
