#animator vs summaII

I've posted this before but no luck…
I have a Summasketch II with stylus which has never performed reliably with
my Animator. I've been through two stylii, have changed video cards, and
done the usual tweaking with my Autoexec., Config., etc.
Recently I demoed a copy of Animator Pro with the same results.
The symptoms are that, at random intervals, the tablet driver seems to
loose track of the stylus coordinates: left and right movements behave
normally, but the up and down movements become reversed. Pressing either
stylus button causes the system to lockup. My system is stable otherwise
with a wide array of dos and windows software. Summagraphics has no ideas.
I've noticed some occasional messages here regarding similar experiences.
Help! I'm trying to love Animator and talk myself into an upgrade, but so
far no luck.
Mark, there's a setting that you need to use for the Summa, but I don't
remember what it is at the moment. Both Kevin Krell and Doug Wolfgram
should be able to help you until Phil DeGeorge gets back from the Autodesk
week-off (on the 4th). Hopefully Kevin or Doug will log on soon enough and
help you out.

Once upon a time, the word I got from Autodesk was to run CFIG386 with the
-NOVM option to disable virtual memory. Did you happen to try this (along
about Dec 1)? This helped the lockup problems I was having with my SUMMA
II+, and it helped but did not completely cure an occasional tendency for
the cursor to stutter and take a flying leap to the moon. I have never
seen the coordinate reversal syndrome.
Are you using the II+ or the original Summa? Earlier, Adesk indicated
possible untouchable problems stemming from rumored ROM changes in the II+,
but pledged to support the original SUMMA (MM1201). The II+ also does
funny things in the 3DS keyframer.
BTW, did you note Kevin Krell's comments to you about this? (Dec 2, msg
28635)

I'd like to jump in here and ask you guys ever hear of Calcomp. All I see
is Summa this Summa that, and once a brief Hitachi. Hate to break
everbody's heart but theirs more digitizers out then Summa. I have a
Calcomp DrawingBoard II, (wireless) and not a complaint in the world.

Thanks for the jumping in! It's far nicer to hear success stories. I wish
everyone would take a few minutes and upload a file of everything that DOES
work well together – would save a lot of grief and experimentation.
Personally, I bought the SUMMA (for the stylus) on the advice of my dealer
and because it was listed as a supported device for 3DS and AniPro. Oh,
well. As soon as I get rich I'll feed the Summa to the dogs and maybe look
at the Calcomp!
