Problem with Deform fit
Example:Simple lathed cylinder
1. Create circle in shaper for the shape to loft
2. Create shape to fit as follows:
Draw top and bottom horizontal lines(2 vertex each)
Draw vertical sides as a step function(3 troughs along the way)
The two vertical sides are mirror images of one another
3. Use the shape for both the x and y fit, then gen path
result: Mesh object is somewhat correct but from the front view it has
several "hatchet chops" in it. Line segments from certain vertices all seem
to pull over to the oppisite side.
Any suggestions? Thank you, MK
Mike, it sounds like you've got some undercuts in the fit shape that are
throwing the geometry off, but if you want me to take a look at the .lft
file you're going to have to zip it up and email it over to my ID# via
Easyplex.

Just a quick observation. My experience with FIT lofting has found it
fantastic for moderate changes along the fit shape but occasionally
stuttering when the fit profile changes abruptly. For example, with the
lathed cylinder you described, I had problems if the "trough" steps were
drawn exactly horizontally in the shaper, but worked OK if they were angled
slightly with appropriate path vertices added.
As you are probably aware, the lathed cylinder can easily be made without
these artifacts by using half of your fit shape with a SurfRev path.
Objects made this way often have small areas of confusion along their
center axis, but this is easily fixed. I have an old message from the
wizard describing the fix if you want it.

Thanks for the information. I think you must be correct about the type
of shape which cannot be deformed. The simplest shape I have tried which
does not work in deform fit is as follows(V=vertices,.=grid markings):

V.V V.V
. .
V.V V.V
. .
V…….V
Connect the dots to form a simple block "I" and use for both the x and
y fit in deform fit (with a circle as the lofted shape). The result is the
hatchet chop mesh object.
