Mike, Just a quick observation. My experience with FIT lofting has found it fantastic for moderate changes along the fit shape but occasionally stuttering when the fit profile changes abruptly. For example, with the lathed cylinder you described, I had problems if the "trough" steps were drawn exactly horizontally in the shaper, but worked OK if they were angled slightly with appropriate path vertices added. As you are probably aware, the lathed cylinder can easily be made without these artifacts by using half of your fit shape with a SurfRev path. Objects made this way often have small areas of confusion along their center axis, but this is easily fixed. I have an old message from the wizard describing the fix if you want it.
