#nuff ram for cd ops?

I just got a cdrom drive and have gotten a few messages indicating that
there's "not enough memory" to do certain things.
Without getting into specifics, is it your impression that 4MB is enough on
a 386/40 system to handle most cdrom ops? Nothing special: just MM, and
the usual stuff?
Appreciate some comments.
It should be more than enough (re 4megs of ram). What CD-ROM drive do you
have? Do you have the most current drivers? Is it a problem specifially
with one particular CD-ROM disc? What controller are you using?
Do you have the lastest version of MSCDEX?
Usually 4MB should be sufficient. If you're running Windows 3.1, and are
having speed or memory problems, then 8 might be nicer but not necessary;
but you can also limit slightly the memory SMARTDRV reserves if you have a
decent size hard disk (it can use up to 2MB) and squeek out that way. If
you haven't reserved EMS memory for apps and/or buffers and loaded those
high as well, that could also contribute to RAM-cram in conventional memory
for some apps. Games in particular need a lot of room, some 550K free, to
run.
