Usually 4MB should be sufficient. If you're running Windows 3.1, and are having speed or memory problems, then 8 might be nicer but not necessary; but you can also limit slightly the memory SMARTDRV reserves if you have a decent size hard disk (it can use up to 2MB) and squeek out that way. If you haven't reserved EMS memory for apps and/or buffers and loaded those high as well, that could also contribute to RAM-cram in conventional memory for some apps. Games in particular need a lot of room, some 550K free, to run. Good luck!
