#Best CD-ROM drive?

Dear All,
I'm about to plunk down some $$$ on a CD-ROM drive, and I'd like some
opinions (or better, some real experience) about what's out there and
what's best. Here's what's of interest to me, in order of importance:
1) Compatibility with System 7, CD drivers, applications s/w, ISO 9660
2) Compatibility with multisession PhotoCD
3) Speed, both access time and throughput
4) Price
5) Bundled CD titles
What can I expect in terms of warranties and reliability? What sort of
price range am I looking at for a speedy drive?
I'm going to use this to run interactive titles, get at Apple's Developer
CDs, access PhotoCD images, play music and QuickTime movies, etc.
Any comments, good or bad, would be appreciated.

For $700 you can get a multi-session, CD-ROM/XA Photo CD drive. Probably a
little lower than $700. For Photo CD compatible drive list download the
file KODAK.TXT. This lists drives on both the MAC and PC that are PhotoCD
compatible. The multi-session ones are best ones. Most CD-ROM drives
today come with 1 year warranty. Also make sure that your drive is a SCSI
one.
Some other good files to download are CDFAQ.TXT and CDROMF.ZIP .. they
contain answers to frequently answered questions about CD-ROM drives. The
latter includes names and addresses of the different vendors.

They re-market Toshiba for the Mac, and have the best support staff in the
Mac arena I've met. The Apple 300 will also meet your needs, but it is
unclear when they will be available for general sale. Price: a little
under $600. And I think (but I may be wrong) you can forget the titles
bundle.
