We just purchased a CD Porta-Drive from CD Technology. We would like to make it available to all users on our LAN but get a cannot share network device when we try to. What do we need to do? All help greatly appreciated. Tech. Info We are using the CD Porta-Drive attached to an IBM AT set up to be a Server using Microsoft's Local Area Network Program V1.32. The CD Rom appears as logical drive E: to the PC. It currently has DOS 3.0 but we can upgrade to DOS 5.0 if it would make a difference although my current impression is that it won't unless I need to get special drivers that require 5.0. Thanks again Bill R.

You need a recent version of the MSCDEX driver (I think 2.21 is the latest) and add the switch /S at the end of the line that loads it.

>You need a recent version of the MSCDEX driver (I think 2.21 is the latest) >and add the switch /S at the end of the line that loads it. > We have version 2.23 I think is what it displayed and we did use the /S parameter but it appears that the version of DOS must be greater then version 3.30. After changing it to DOS 5.0 it worked like a charm. Thanks for your assistance. After reading your message, I wanted to know what the /S was for so I downloaded the MSCDEX file from the MSDR forum. This file explains all the command line parameters. In it was a blurb mentioning the the /S alters the operating system to all the CD ROM to be shared on a network. That's what made me decide to try upgrading the systems DOS and ultimately got the CD ROM on-line. Thanks once again. Bill R.

If you need a CD-ROM networking product for the MS LAN NOS, the OPTI-NET for DOS solution offers the highest levels of compatibility, performance, and functionality using the NetBIOS protocol. Chris Online Computer Systems (800) 922-9204 / (301) 428-3700

What do you think the best solution is for a Novell (3.11) network?
