Is there a way I can access Internet from CompuServe? How do I go about it? Is there a file I could download with such info? George Roland

Depends entirely on what you mean by 'access', Roland. You can mail to people who have internet addresses, and you can receive mail from people who know your internet address, but as for general browsing of newsgroups, no, there is no access of that type. Your internet address is 74030.321@compuserve.com To mail someone on the internet, you go to email and compose it, then mail to (for example)… INTERNET:jongsma@esseye.si.com -larry

Is it the same for accessing BitNet. I have a friend in Isreal who has a brother in Isreal. The bro has a CIS account but my friend has a Bitnet address.

Most Internet nodes will Do The Right Thing if confronted with an address of the form user@node.BITNET, even though Bitnet isn't a real TCP/IP domain. (The same goes for UUCP if you ever have to deal with it.) It wasn't always this way, but these days just about every network knows how to get to just about every other network.

Hmm… I missed the beginging of the thread, but if the question is "Can I send mail to a Bitnet address from CIS?" the answer is yes, using CIS's Internet mail gateway.

If you haven't already received your December issue of CompuServe Magazine, then we might have to start calling you Claire[voyant]. <g> One of the main features of this months issue is a discussion of how to access and use the Internet via the CIS gateway!

At present we can only send and receive e-mail to and from Internet. Your Internet "address" is 74030.231.@compuserve.com but it is important to note that the period is used and NOT the comma. To send e-mail the syntax is >INTERNET:jdoe@osu.edu . The > symbol is recommended if you are using a common terminal program. Once again Amiga users give good advice! This is the reason why CompuServe customer service rarely hears from Amiga users. Amiga users take the time to do their own leg-work. KUDOS!
