Hello again, Well, I know I said I was going to take a break but I just couldn't stay away. Tomorrow. Yeah, I'll quit tomorrow. So I restored myself to my previous state, and am now stuck again. This time, instead of experimenting and getting into trouble (actually, I've tried everything and can't figure it out) I've come to the good folks on the net. So. I have a character that is picking up a stapler. How do I link the stapler to the hand at the moment the character starts to pick it up? If I can't does anyone have a good work around? And it has to become linked at a certain point, because otherwise, well, you can see the problem. Any great suggestions (is there water in the ocean)? James

There is a very cool feature in R3 that will allow you to fake it perfectly: HIDE keys. What you want to do is make two staplers. One will be unlinked for the first somany frames, the other will be linked to the hand for the "pick up". The trick is to hide the linked one until the frame where it begins to leave the surface it was resting on, and unhide the linked one. You do that by selecting track info on the unlinked stapler, selecting ADD in the track info dialogue chart, and place the dot on the frame where it needs to disappear (you'll notice all the frames after trun grey – that's good). For the linked stapler add a hide key in the first frame, and another in the frame where it needs to appear (same as where the other disappears). You'll notice grey frames from the first dot to the second, then white frames after – white means it's visible. Happy keyframing… John Tissavary (La Luna cie)

Okay, that was the fix I had in mind as well, John. I thought there may have been a more straightforward fix, but that's okay – I'll use it. Thanks, man! James

<<Time to get a glare filter. <g>>> I'm sorry. I've forgotten what I was saying. Why should I get a glare filter (I know it's like having to explain the punchline of a joke, but I'm a little slow this morning)? James
