I received the questionnaires from some of our members and I would like to tell you something about the answers: 1) Most of our members live in USA. I live in Germany another one in Sweden. 2) 40h/month can be spent at average. Together this will be about 400-500 hours/month. 3) We could need some more people doing modelling. Most want to do keyframing and rendering. Some can record frames to tape (1", Betacam SP, VHS), convert from NTST to PAL or add sound. 4) Suggestions for our group-name: a) ASOFT Group, 3rd Millenium Animation Consortium b) The Global 3D Coalition c) 3D Coalition Global d) Auto 3D World e) United Yosters 3D World f) The Shrinking World of Animation Club g) Global Animations h) Nostrum Group Tell me which you like best. 5) Most NTSC, some PAL (look at 1.) 6) "all members all copyright" is what all wanted. Someone wrote me he agrees with that, but the finished product should be shown only with the group's name on it. Another one liked the group as a collective should copyright the material with all members having full rights to use it. Please let me know what you think about these two ideas. I don't think the second suggestion can be handled when the group-members are placed all over the world. 7) Some have full Internet-access, some only e-mail and some only a modem (2400 baud). Will be no problem… 8) Email via Compuserve private BBS setting up a forum seems to be to expensive 9) look below (my answers) 10) All I received to this point is "let me think, open to suggestions no ideas, etc". Everyone should think about this and perhaps write something to me. I don't want to do this work alone. Just write ANYTHING that comes to your mind, don't care if it's possible to realize or not. I noticed that some of you send me letters by the forum, others by private mail. As I'm setting up a way to communicate I should know, if anybody don't want the others to know his name. If so, tell me in your next letter. As one of us is able to set up an own bbs for us, I think the ones living in America should swap their files by this way. I will collect all files in Europe and send them by Internet to somebody in America, which will put them into the box. If files are only to be send between two people, they could do this by CompuServe-mail also, as not all have Internet-access. By the way, my operating system FTP and e-mail is running on is VMS. If anybody has UUENCODE/UUDECODE or any other utility to send binary files by mail he could send it to me. Okay, I think it is time to tell you some things about me… Just let me fill out my questionnaire: 1) Address: Holger van Koll Unterallmendstrasse 27 D-78120 Furtwangen Germany Tel./Fax: +49 7723 4952 Internet-mail: vankoll@zrz.fh-furtwangen.de I study computer-science and management (this is one combined study) at the "Fachhochschule Furtwangen" in Germany. Together with a friend of mine, Bernd Strack (who studies computer-science for engineers, also at Furtwangen) I am going to found my own company for computer-animations after finishing my study (October, 1994). That's why I bought 3D-Studio and met this forum. All of "my" work, letters etc. is done by me and my friend, so when I write "I, me etc.", I always write about me and my friend. Age: Holger 25, Bernd 24 2) Both of us can spend about 40 hours/month. From January, 15th to February, 4th we won't have as much time as we will write seclusions. But after that we will have more time (about 80 hours/month). 3) Most of you would like me to manage the project. I would do this if everybody agrees. If anybody else would like this job, contact me. If not I think I will have enough work to make (and keep) the project go. But I will also do modelling, keyframing, rendering (for the PAL-Users) if this is needed. 4) No, as our group name will be in English and I don't know this language very well. Remember this when you write letters to me and try to express yourself as simply as possible. Don't use phrases, as I can't find them in a dictionary. 5) PAL, 720×576, aspect ratio 1,067. 7) I have full access to the Internet (worldwide), including FTP, Telnet, e-mail. I also got a 14400bps modem. 8) I would like to use the bbs one member of us likes to set up within America. From Europe to America and back we will use Internet or CompuServe mail. 9) I got many ideas from the group. Some sounded pretty good. You will be told more about this in a few days. 10) Holger: I would like to show a man riding on a motorbike around a race-course (the view he's got). Nice looking would be passing maneuvers, drifting or something like that. I know the basic racing-technices and could tell you more of this if you like this idea. If you ever watched such races where somebody got a camera on board, you know what I am talking about. Those pictures inspire people who have never sit on a bike, too. Bernd: A chemical reaction could be animated, maybe atomic fusion. This is a good example of what can't be shown by usual cameras. Or something about the evolution of our universe (big-bang, "black hole ?" [the burned out suns with the endlessly high mass], etc.) If I will get more of such ideas (from you I hope), we'll also need to think about how to put them together to one animation. And splitting up work would not be so easy, too. I would like us to work together at one time, not the first to model and after he has done his work the second to do keyframing etc.

Put in my vote for: >> a) ASOFT Group, 3rd Millenium Animation Consortium The story board will best evolve by someone starting a story and letting everyone add something or make changes to the concept. With all the activity this forum sees, the story may be fully developed within a week or two. >>Or something about the evolution of our universe… How about the evolution of a universe (not our own), where subatomic particles are actually PC's? Maybe they are calculating the construction of a solar system. We could see a planet being constructed as a framework, then being covered by a "skin" of earth and water. An atmosphere could be sent in by "ethernet"… (and so begins the madness…) One thing to remember about a group project is that the more pieces and the more scenes available, the easier it is to pass out the work to be done.
