I'd like any comments from someone who has or is using the Emplant board. Does
it do what they say with no problems? I need to emulate at least a Mac IICi, in
color and have access to scsi devices and floppy. Also are the ROM's available
and any prices on them..thanks for any help.. Don

The Emplant does what it advertises. You have access either to the
Amiga's scsi bus or, if you get the Emplant with built-in scsi support, access
to Mac scsi manager devices. Floppy support is read/write limited to high
density floppy drives without additional hardware. To access 800K floppies you
need UU's Sybil device and software. ROMs are available from Shreve Systems or
similar Mac second hand supply companies. They are fairly expensive. I have
seen ads at around $250. However, if you have a REAL Mac II you can run a
software program UU supplies which captures a ROM image from the real Mac. You
can run Emplant from the ROM image file without having the ROMs installed on
the board.
As an aside, Readysoft will shortly deliver Amax IV which claims to
provide similar capabilities as the Emplant while only using the 128K ROMs of a
Mac Plus. This includes color support, quicktime support, ethernet support and
other device support through the Amiga buss and it also multitasks. However,
it has not yet shipped, although Readysoft claims they should begin shipping
this month.
Thanks a lot your message answers some questions, so does Emplant use the
Amiga's drive to access Mac disks or did you answer that? Also what or who is
UU and sybil? I've got access to a Ci so the ability to read the Roms's would

Emplant uses the Amiga drive, and as I said can only read/write using
the high density floppy. If you don't have a high density floppy drive you
will certainly need one to get any practical use of floppy disks. Sybil is a
hardware device which enables you to read/write 800K Mac floppies. UU is
Utilities Unlimited, the manufacturere/developer of Emplant. They advertise in
Amigaworld and Amazing Computing. UU makes Emplant and Sybil.
