#CD-ROM $149 ???
5 messages in this thread
I just found an add from Fry's Electronics, they are selling a SCSI
internal CD-ROM drive for $149 – made by TEXEL, 340ns access, 150KB
transfer rate.
Has anybody tried this unit? – at $149 it seems hard to pass up.
With a box and power supply I could connect this to my A3000. Any
opinions? Thanks
I have heard good things about Texel CDROM drives. They have a fast,
dual speed, multi-session unit out now, so perhaps that's the reason
for the low price on this unit.
Scott, I bought a Toshiba 3401B at Fry's last week for 349 dollars
and installed it in my 040 A2000. Bought ASIM software. Fred Fish
(CD) works fine but you cannot play music CD's except with
headphones! Amy won't handle 24bit audio. I wonder if sound effects
in CD games will play. Fry sells cases with power supply and
internal ribbon connectors for $79 and $99 dollars fine, but it won't
fit interenally into your 3000 because there is no 5 inch bay. Te
He. try it!
It looks like a slow drive, but probably perfectly useful for most
file-diddling tasks, like retrieving Fish disks from CD.
My Texel DM-3024 works seems to work fine with my A3000 and the CATS CD.
Hopefully Santa will get me another CD or two for Xmas. 😉
