My son is looking for the Student Version of Autocad & 3D Studio. He is currently in High School so there is no college bookstore available. Does anyone have any ideas on where to locate it? He was given an 800 number but its voicemail and never returns his call. Thanks, John

John, The student versions are only available at college or university bookstores and are only available to fully matriculated students of those institutions.

Joe, Hmm Thanks. Thats very interesting. Considering that his high school has built a program around AutoDesk products it seems somewhat short sighted for AutoDesk to to ignore them! Here you have an obviously dedicated student who shows an interest and is thwarted! Oh well, I tried to explain the money to be made is in Lightwave anyway! 😉 You have saved my family a tremendous amount of money. (He was buying a 486 to use it on.) John

Sounds like a serious case of sour grapes to me! Hope he enjoys Lightwave, but then, high school students have lots of time on their hands, anyway. <bg>

John, All I can do is report on the proceedures that Autodesk has established. The stident version is for AutoCAD only. As far as I know there isn't a student version of 3D Studio available. There is a modified version of Release 10 AutoCAD available as a disk set in one of the books on AutoCAD for students. I believe it's published by Addison-Wesley (but I can't swear to it).

I attend the University of Florida and I recently purchsed a student edition of 3D Studio and it came bundled with the IPAS tool kit. And I got it at an incredibly low price. It is available through Addison-Wesley, but it may be available to college students attending certain large institutions, however I'm not exacly sure. Andrew Sinagra

I have also purchased 3-d Studio rel.3, through a authorized educational reseller(AER). The price was unbelievable low!!!!! You have to go through a dealer, and you have to be a student at a major university. I called Autodesk and they told me that it is a promotion they are doing!!!
