#Where is WinCIS?

Someone had given me the location of WinCIS. I can't seem to find the
message. Anyone know where this is?

It's in GO WUGNET You need files WC094A-> ->E.ZIP (5 files) and also
VBRUN300.DLL

P.S. Be aware that there is a bug in the current CIS forum software
that sometimes causes the wrong message # to be attached to the start
of a thread when SCAN QUICK NEW is used, (most automated programs use
this command when retrieving headers). CIS is aware of the bug, and
has beta forum software that supposedly fixes this problem, but it
will probably be a while before all the forums have it. The result is
that you might miss a few messages a day, unless you use CIS own
DosCim or WinCim, (they don't use SCAN QUICK NEW). All other
automated programs have to deal with this bug right now.

Sounds like WinCIS is yet another Compuserve navigator. Is this better than
tapcis or navcis? Why have you chosen a beta copy of software over other tried
and true navigators?
I'm looking for a navigator that has all of the automated features of Tapcis.
Tapcis is going obsolete. I need to use a networked modem which means support
for Novell NACS, and tapcis will only support a local modem.

Yes, WinCis is a CI$ offline navigator. It uses the Windows interface, unlike
TapCis, and is actually a very well thought-out product. Even though it is
still in BETA, it's been out for over a year. Unlike some other programs, the
author wants to have maximum user input and get rid of any bugs before he
starts charging for it. I have used it in various versions for the last 6
months, and have not had even one problem with it, other than what the program
has no control over. I don't know how it deals with networks; GO WUGNET to the
WinCis Advanced section, and I'm sure you;ll get some responses.

I ordered WinCIM and immediately didn't use it. It was nothing like the
off-line programs that I was used to (TAPCIS & OzCIS). With WinCIS (and the
others I just mentioned), you do everything off-line. The program logs-on..
does it's thing .. logs-off. Keeps more money in your pocket and makes most
functions easier.
If you are used to using what CIS provides, then you are spending WAY TOO MUCH
money in connect charges. Download WinCIS from GO WUGNET and give it a try.
It'll only cost you the download time to give a whirl!

I'm not sure that you're getting the comparison you want. If you use WinCim
then you're probably used to logging on, downloading the messages by using the
Retrieved Marked command, exiting and reading and responding to them offline.
Since you can retrieve all the messages in the Asoft forum on the busiest day
in about 4 minutes I'm not sure what Angelo is talking about:

Maybe with WinCis you can script out the multistep proceedure of logging on,
retrieving a predesignated list of topics and then logging out. If this is
true it differs from WinCim only slightly but the difference would be
significant. The scripting ability would definitely make it more useful than
WinCim in my opinion. Maybe you could script WinCis to do this proceedure at a
specific time of each day? I hope to get info on WinCis as well, it could be
worth a try.

WinCIS is a completely "off-line" scripting program .. just like TAPCIS and
OzCIS. The only resemblance it has to WinCIM is that it runs under windows.
To set-up thru a very user friendly interface what you want to do … write
mail .. read and tag headers .. do library searches .. download files .. all
off-line. You simply tell it "go" and as fast as it can (depending on your
modem speed) it will go and do all what you asked .. jumping from forum to
forum.
Nearly all of the SYSOP's and TM's use this program or a program similair to it
… and you know what they say about flies <g>.

I just started using WinCIS myself .. and am using it now. I love it. Does
everything that TAPCIS could do and does it in Windows.

Naw….When I do 3DS .. I'm in a different word (and a different machine). The
machine I use for my dially chores (contact database, writting proposals,
etc..) is one of the 1st machines my company bought 5 years ago … a 386-20.
A real screamer in its day (I used to blow the socks off of the Compaq's).
Myself and the office assistant have the 2 slowest machines in the company …
so much for the trappings of power <g>.

I hear ya … up until a week ago, that was the machine the office had me using
for tech support on ACAD and 3DS!! And with a whopping 8 megs! I finally just
got my boss's hand-me-down 486/50 w 32 megs for support last week. ('use a
486/66 at home)
