Pierre Jean, >>woman by Imagination Works… The models, both male and female, are by Tom Knight, and they are FANTASTIC. I've got both of them here. The detail is incredible (opacity mapped eyelashes, etc.) The models are fully jointed, with smooth connections, and come with animation tracks for walking, sitting, etc. Each model comes with a variety of business and casual clothing, optionally optional, with detail beneath. The down side, they are large in face count. I used the male model in a recent project and all parties were very pleased with the result. JKJ

I'm working on a magazine review of people models. Where can I get a copy of the Imagination Works models? Thanks Michele

Hey Michele, >>Imagination Works models… Tom Knight is at 408-395-5211. (a great guy) JKJ PS. Loved your books!

Thanks. I called Tom Knight to arrange a review copy for the February issue of Multi-CAD magazine. Do you know of any other people models around? I already have John Ellis's and Rachel Rosenthal's lined up. Any suggestions? Glad you liked the books! I'm sending the Morphing & Animation book to Tom. I thought he might pick up a tip or two from the walking puppet man (har, har). Michele

PMJI- Please in the name of all that is sacred (pretty short list now that I think about it.) don't go marketing your own people after you review everybody else's. I know I'm not the only one who couldn't bear to witness the massive bloodletting, tumult and carnage of another CyberWar here on the ASOFT forum.

No worries. I ain't in the peoples business, and have no intentions of starting up. The reference to the puppet man refers to a simple person made of cylinders and spheres that you learn how to make in the Morphing & Animation book. Then I show how to make him walk. The idea is that you can apply the walk cycle concepts to any people or character model you like. If you saw the puppet man you would laugh at the idea of him being comparable to any of the people models around. Besides, I never do any REAL work, I just write about the stuff. <g> Michele

I look forward to your review. Any chance that you've reviewed any of the CD ROM libraries of other architectural accoutrements? I'd like to do some comparison shopping and I certainly need to be enlightened on what's available. Thanks, Bob

How about your top ten list or at least the best in the following categories: 1) Best trees – including primarily deciduous and evergreens 2) Best plant, flowers 3) Best vehicles – nothing too outrageous, just cars, vans, busses 4) Best furniture – office/commercial 5) Best furniture – famous designer (Breuer, AAlto, etc.) 6) Best devices – telephones, computers, light fixtures 7) Best woodgrain maps 8) Best stone maps 9) Best texture/bump maps – carpetting, ceiling tiles, fabric 10)Best conglomeration of unusual stuff If you can throw a price tag on these as well I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Bob

You got all the best stuff?? Can I get all those things from you, I sure am interested in a lot of that stuff, I've already got some, but I'm really short of furniture, I did most of what I've got myself, can you give a list over Cserve. Christophe,

Haven't reviewed the mesh CDs but I think I might include a short review of them alongside the people reviews. Michele

Could you make an announcement of when and where to look for your review? Looking forward to it. Thanks. Bob

Michele, >>know of other people models?… Not personally, except I heard Schreiber was selling some people (sounds like something ol' Abe Lincoln would be against, huh?). One small idea: you might include a comparison to the 50% man – since the model comes on the 3DS CD-ROMs, everyone has it. It might make a useful point of reference for things like face count, joint smoothness, and level-of-detail comparisions. Hey, just an idea, I didn't say it was a GREAT idea! JKJ (as usual)

>> a comparison to the 50PMAN… A great idea! A reference point everyone can look at! However, the magazine is aimed at CAD people so I'll have to include a picture of the 50PMAN too, for those who don't have 3D Studio. The 50PMAN reference will work especially well for the new Monsters & People book due out soon. Michele

Pierre – Tom Knights people are excellent and well detailed, however as has been pointed out they have alot of faces and not everyone needs that level of detail. I mention this because I have developed a lo-res set of male/female people with articulated joints with a face count under 1200 which can be positioned for static as well as animated scenes. They are an addition to Imagine 3D People which are the static version and which are currently being marketed by Schrieber Instruments. As a special offer to anyone interested you can recieve a male and female Beta version for $95 and recieve the finished marketed version in January for free which will retail for $295 and will include 10 articulated models in a variety of clothes. If you need highly detailed models for close-ups etc I would highly recommend checking out Tom Knights models, but if you just need people for walk-throughs and for scale etc. I think you'll find Imagine 3D Articulated People will suit you needs very well and they render very fast, approximately 10 seconds for a full screen render. I'll be uploading a still architectural scene today and you can check them out if you're intersted. -JE

Hello Pierre, In addition to John's (JKJ) comments, Imagination Works has a lower resolution set of models that are also jointed and hierarchically equivalent to the high resolution models. The keyframer animations correctly transfer from the low res to the high res models using files-track-insert. This feature is helpful for increasing the keyframer playback time (on top of the speed increase that Liquid Speed gives you), and then using the high res models when its time to render. His models are well worth the investment. Jonas[adesk]
