#QBTools Optimizer

I've got a replicable problem with QBTools version 2.0. Every time I
go to optimize my hard drive, the optimizer chokes during the
reorganization process with a "Block out of range" error. I've even
replicated the error with a cleanly formatted and restored hardrive.
My system: A2000 w/GVP A3001, 25 MHz '030 and '882, 4 MB 32 bit RAM, 2
MB 16 bit RAM, Quantum 210 SCSI drive. The Quantum is formatted as one
large 199 MB partition. No programs running save QBTools and those in the
stock 2.1 startup-sequence.
BTW: This problem did not occur when I had the system partitioned as 4
49MB partitions, only after I went to one partition, and no, I won't go
back, I like the room <g>. I have replicated the problem five times, so
far, and it gets a little old reloading 147 MB from floppies.

Brian,
The only other person who has reported this kind of Problem found that his
drive had been formatted with values for the number of tracks that did not
match the values returned by HD toolbox when reading info directly from the
drive. I believe that when he reformatted the problem went away. At least it's
been a month and he hasn't called back.

I'll check into that, although it's not an easy proposition. The drive
was installed from day one with GVP software and reformatted repeatedly
since then with the same software. <Attempting to recall the way to
finagle HDToolBox>.
Anyway, thanks for the tip. I'll let you know how it works out.

I've since double-checked my information here and that isn't the
problem. The drive does not respond to any SCSI_DIRECT commands, so if
your using it, forget it. If you are using the information contained
within the rigid boot block, it's set to use less sectors than are
actually available (408,000 allowed vice 408,574 available according to
Quantum), something I'm going to fix whenever I can face backing up and
restoring 200+ floppies.
I did get around to using HDToolBox, by setting the driver tooltype and
it works fine, except for not being able to query the drive. I still
think it's a problem on your end, not mine, as QBTools is the only program
that is experiencing a problem. The two PD/ShareWare reorganizers both
run fine here with absolutely no problems. Actually, they run faster than
QBTools, even though it is crapping out halfway through.
What's the story here? I dont' _think_ I've got anything set up wrong.
Any other ideas?

Randy: Just wondering what the latest approved version of QB Tools 2 is? I
saw a free upgrade on the boards, but some folks say they've had trouble
with it.

We are currently shipping a 2.0.2 version of Quarterback Tools Deluxe. The
patch that is in our library takes 2.0. to 2.0.1. The only problems that have
been reported are related to the serialization routine that we have put in the
initial startup. The primary cause of these problems is the programs strict
insistance on using the precise format for the serial number VER.XXXXX where
VER is the three digit version number (201) separated from XXXXX (the five
digit sequence number) by a single period.
2.0.2 addressed a problem with the serialization routine which should not
effect people applying the patch.
