#386BB Software

Steven: After my last message I was very brave. I removed the Bridgeboard
from the right hand BB slot and moved it over one slot to the right. Yep,
I know there are no AT us slots there. But guess what! Everything works
(So long as I don't want to connect a PC card) I have installed MS DOS and
PCJanus with no problems at all.
After closely examining the Bridgboard slots, which are now suspect, I
see that the connectors do not line up at all. One of them is about three
sixteenths of an inch over to one side. Do you think that this could be
why the BB would lock up, or does the AT Bus have another problem?
Thanks for your time

Dave,
Hmmm, very strange. There is no reason it should work!! If the BB
isn't in one of the two BB slots, you shouldn't have proper operation. I don't
understand why you do!! What you may need to do is to put the BB into the
second BB slot. You have two of them. If you put it in the slot closest to
the left side (actually in the 3rd slot from the left) you will only have two
available ISA slots. I guess you may have a motherboard which has something
out of align, but that would be a bit strange. If that's the case you may want
to have your dealer see if it can be fixed or replace the motherboard.
Although I would find it difficult to believe that the connector(s) could
actually be soldered into the wrong holes since that would mean gross
misalignment of pins-to-holes, it is possible that if one connector is
bent over significantly that you could have at least one bad electrical
connection which could certainly give you the lock-up problem.
I suggest that if you are not *very* adept with electronic test equipment
and troubleshooting, you take your machine in to your Amiga dealer and
have it checked out. If the connector is installed incorrectly, this is
obviously(?) a manufacturing defect and I would think that they should be
willing to rectify the situation without cost to you. Just my opinion,
though, since I am in no way affiliated with CBM.
