#3DS invalid normal array
10 messages in this thread
I'm new in autodesk 3D studio. May be I'm doing something really stupid each
time I try rendering animation, it show me in the midle of rendering "INVALID
NORMAL ARRAY" If I change some lights I'm able to create still rendering. But
if I go to keyframer and rotate object in final frame, (all in the middle
should be done automatically) it show me the same message. Even when I try
render simple #3DS 50% chance to get this message. I'm using 3DS STUDIO VER #
486dx2-66 Viper VLB BTW Can you recommend me any book where I can learn about
some basic and adv. tech to use 3DS. I try look at local bookstore, but thay do
not have any book about 3DS studio. Thank you -Ernest Morgenshtern

You'll have to re-install 3DS from the original disks to get rid of that
invalid normal array problem, Ernest. Seems your executable somehow got a bit
corrupted…
The BEST 3DS-oriented books for basic advice come with the program — the
extensive reference, tutorials, and technical documentation included with every
copy of 3DS.

Ernest,
you need to re-install 3ds from the original disks, and avoid anything that
might corrupt the 3ds.exe file.
sounds like you using an un registered verision with a hack Mike White Sun Dog
Pro.
Ernest,
>>learning 3DS from books…
As others have mentioned, the manuals are the best place to start. Do ALL the
tutorials, in order. Then after using 3DS a few months, do them all again!
(It really helps, unless you have a bionic brain or something.)
I just got Fulton's book, "3D Studio Applied". It looks pretty good, well
worth the $40.
I also recently bought "Mastering 3D Studio Volume 1: Advanced Modeling and
Rendering". Shame on child molesters, drug pushers, and anyone who sells this
book. $60, but I will sell you my copy for $30 if I can find it.
JKJ
PMJI – John, I was told that Fulton's book wasn't shipping for another couple
of weeks, did you get an advance copy? Also who were the authors of "Mastering
3D Studio Volume 1: Advanced Modeling and Rendering". If you'd like, you can
e-mail the response. Thanks -JE
>>Fulton's book…
No pardon necessary – my note scratching seems to indicate I called Christa
Zull at 216-891-3115 and ordered the book – the invoice says it was shipped
out on 11/24 by ground UPS but I just got it a couple of days ago. I have no
idea if it is an advance copy – it looks complete, with CD-ROM and everything.
Besides a few minor things, the book looks great and seems to have a lot of
useful information.
>>who wrote "Advanced Modeling…"
E-mail is not possible – I can't remember who the authors are. I honestly
can't find my copy and I haven't missed it. It was a major disappointment. I
started to write a review for the forum but I haven't finished. Basically, the
book is not the least bit "Advanced" – it tell you how to use a mouse, how to
select Render from the menu, etc. Much of the book is reference material
rehashing the manual, menu, by menu – ACK! The modeling information is very
basic stuff, perhaps useful to a beginner. Maybe the book should simply be
renamed…
As not to be totally negative, there is one excellent chapter about lighting
which is well worth reading. $60 worth??
Yikes, I feel some Christmas spirit commin' on! Got to go!
JKJ
PS. Happy Christmas to you and all of you 3DS'ers out there. Let's not forget
the name inside and the reason we have this holiday!
Thanks – John, maybe I'll get my copy next week, as for the other book,
obviously no big loss, just curious.
Have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday to all and your's.

-JE,
If you are really curious about the "Advanced" book, I'd be glad to lend it out
(as soon as I find it <g>).
BTW, I didn't mean to sound so harsh concerning dealers of that particular 3DS
book in my reply to Ernest. On the contrary, I am grateful for dealers like
Pyros, Ang, & others who seem to go to great expense to stock EVERYTHING that
might satisfy our collective whim. In contrast to today's drug scene, I hereby
promise to condem only the product, not the dealer!
JKJ
John – Understood… And it was probably one of the first books out and with a
demand for any literature concerning 3DS, dealers and publishers where
scrambling to provide more. And you where probably well advanced by the time
you got the book, so it didn't seem very relevant, in contrast to others who
were saying, "Wow there sure is alot of stuff to learn".
Yeah, I'm still waiting for mine… I think its the holiday mails slowing
things up. Thanks for the offer, its much appreciated. I think however by the
time you can send it, mine will be here. (I hope) And if not I'll just give
them a call and send "WHERE'S MY BOOOK!!!!" just kidding. <G>
