Twas the night before Christmas. Uh huh. Just checking in to let you know where _my_ heart is at this Christmas… My daughter's closest friend, Michael Stuckey, was murdered this week while trying to stop a mugging near Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. Michael was 24, and just beginning to get into computer graphics and 3D Studio (he was going to the SF Art Institute, studying sculpture). We'll miss Michael terribly, and are reminded once again with a kick in the face that life is so short that we're constantly on the verge of missing it. I hope you all get to spend the holidays with your loved ones. Take care of yourselves and be safe. – G

Gary, Please except our deepest sympathies. Life is short. I sincerely appreciate all you've done to make ours better through your inspiring work. If there's anything we can do please let us know. Once again our deepest sympathies go out to you and your family. Paul & Adrienne

Wow…trying to stop a mugging! We could only pray that the powers that be will reward this courageous act with whatever it is that a soul can attain after it's time on this planet (assuming there *is* such a thing). We are incredibly sorry such a thing had to happen. May you and your family (and everyone Michael knew) find the strength to deal with this unfair event. -Alan

I agree… there's no purer act on earth than the act of saving someone else's life at the expense of your own. That's got to clear an awful lot of karma — perhaps Michael doesn't have to make another go of it here. – G

Hello Gary, I am sorry. You're right about life being a turn away from forever. And it's especially hard to hear of someone so young (my god, he was my age). And trying to help… One day, one day, I dream… Oh well.

Gary What terribly sad news. It is one thing to leave this earth when one is 74. It is another very tragic and difficult thing for those who remain when one leaves at 24. So many things are unfulfilled…. yet there are many good memories. My family and I want to say we are very sorry and wish your family and Michael's family strength and courage during what must be a very difficult time. Nick

Gary: I'd like to add my condolences, all the tough challenges of being a teen and moving into adulthood, to have it all snatched away when it is just really starting. My sympathies to your daughter, its especially hard when one is just starting to understand life to see one so close pass away. All the dreams and hopes that shatter in an instant. The courage required to stand up again and find meaning and purpose. To accept that life goes on and that there will be new hopes and dreams made real. My very earnest wishes that the new year will find you and your family with renewed life force and that your families fond memories of Michael will inspire for along time to come. -JE

Gary, you and yours will be in me and my families prayers this season. Such a tragedy, and it's always terrible to be left wondering "…..why?…." God bless

Gary, My sincere sympathy. We ask why and don't understand. If I were king, I'd honour Michael Stuckey and others like him with a hero's medal for having the guts to take a stand. I remember the loss and the anger I felt at the fellow who killed my young brother Paul a few years ago. My anger was tempered somewhat by remembering Romans 12:19, "…vengence is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord." My sadness was slow to go; my memories will always be there. May the Lord grant your family and Michael's family courage and peace. JKJ

8.-( It's a shame that good deeds in the 90's so often end this way. My condolences to you and your family.
