#Colors Question
10 messages in this thread
Hello Mike, I have a question, and since you are a professional on the 3d
programming field you might be able to answer it. The other day some body ask
me why do all 3d programs use RGB to set colors and not any of the other color
systems?. I personally like RGB because is the one I know but this persons
problem is that he knows CMYK. My assumption is because RGB is the way light
works while CMYK the way ink works. But, then again that's only my asumption.
Thanks. Edgar L. Ibarra
Edgar,
RGB is very mathematical and programmers by nature like it. CMYK is a
printing set of colors many times based on Panatone colors or other makers of
inks. RGB is what most video users relate to while CMYK is used as I said by
printers. The ultimate result of the image will most likely be the same, it
boils down to personal preference. I really wished there was more technology
behind these abbre. I am sure that some one else will give you a more detailed
reason why this is better than that but the bottom line is with RGB and 8 bits
of color per gun you get 24 bits and that gives you 16.7 million colors/
Hope that helps
Mike
Do you use GigaMem with Imagine? I'm having trouble getting Imagine 2.9 to
access the virtual memory. So far, it uses about 5mb virtual, then steals
the rest of my regular fast and graphics memory and I get an Error
Rendering message. I have a partition set aside for GigaMem.
Any ideas? Or should I go and hassle Inovatronics for help? *B^)

Vance,
Got the font.
No I dont use gigamem, I used it once and my drive went south to Aruba, I am
sure I did something wrong, I just bought more memory and the problems I was
having went away. I have talked to a few who use it and they said it works
fine with 2.0 have not heard about 2.9. Caution, virtual dirves will slow
things down, and in some cases it will be so slow it aint worth the effort. I
would not hassel those other guys but a note or a call might open some doors.
Mike
Thanks for the help! It is slower than real ram, but for now, I have to
use it. Have you tested any of the high capacity ram cards and can you
recommend one for my A3000T?

I don't have a problem using 2.9 and Gigamem. I set it to use all virtual
memory first. I've never been able to make Gigamem do fast Ram then virtual. I
suspect it is because of the way my fast Ram is set up.
Thanks for replying.
Did you use the advanced options, or did you only use the standard
settings? Is there any more info you can give me??

Ok, here goes, looking at the Gigamem Prefs menu: Priority: Virtual memory
first, Buff mem for me is 0.1, Cache is 300.0. The Swap medium is Entire
Partition, Select is Swap. I have a 40 meg. partition that I allocate to Swap.
Since I use it for other purposes than Gigamem, I initialize it with the
Workbench. I don't put any other files in the Swap partition. It is very slow
but the only way I can work with the Humanoids. My version of Gigamem is 2.01
(that is what it says in Gigamem Prefs on the menu bar. I have tried Imagine
with fast Ram first and it will crash while it is loading up the objects. I've
never been able to make it work any other way. Hope this help. BTW, I can't
seem to get my lefse to format …
Hmmm, my version is 3.0. if you have 2.01, you'd better upgrade. *B^)
Thanks for the help! I'll give your settings a try and I'm saving your
message for reference.
Can't format you're lefse, eh? Looks like another project for me! Virtual
Lefse!! <G>

You are welcome. Hope you can get it working. You could always call
Innovatronics.
