Help!
Can anyone tell me what to do to get my printer back online?
The problem is this: I've installed ParNet. It won't let me use my
printer. I keep getting "object is in use" message. Of course, my
printer is a par: device so there must be some kind of competition going
on. I can't even delete the ParNet drawer because "object is in use." I
still haven't used ParNet but still hope to, so deleting it is a last
resort.
Can I somehow "unMount" the par: or redirect it to the printer?
What am I doing wrong?!?! (Or maybe just "what am I doing?")
Any help would be appreciated.
Using a Parnet & Printer together can be a bit of a problem.
My wordprocessor (FinalCopy II) would freeze everytime I ran FCII and had
the parnet mounted. I solved the problem by setting my printer driver to
be SERIAL instead of parallel. This can be done from Printer Prefs.
Apparently, FCII checked the parallel port, and got hung when parnet
didn't respond "correctly" for a printer.
If your printer supports a serial interface, you could use both printer on
the serial port, and pernet on the parallel.
As for deleting (or removing) the Parnet. Check the startup scripts,
Mounlist, DosDrivers, and the WB-Startup drawer for the parnet mounting
command/script. Delete the commands from perment scripts, and wb-Startup
drawer (or move them into a temporary drawer). You don't have to mount
the parnet at startup; you can always mount it later.

Ron, thanks for the tip. I don't plan to use the printer and ParNet at
the same time, since I'll have a cable to the other computer between tha
parallel ports. I'll fix the system so Parnet is only mounted when I need
it!

PS I sure have learned a lot with my computer by doing things wrong. It
keeps life interesting. If it weren't simply a hobby I'd be pretty
frustrated.

A German company called Arxon sell an intelligent switch boxthat will
allow parnet and the printer to be connected at the same time. Wolf
Faust's Studio program supports this box.
