I've been trying to get my 1 Meg Viper VLB (Rev. A4) to work with Windows NT 3.5 for the last couple of days with no success. The generic Weitek P9000 drivers _almost_ work…the system boots, but the display is scrambled. In fact, it looks exactly like the old OS/2 drivers that were incompatible with 1 Meg cards (maybe just Rev. A4 1 Meg cards) did. About every third scan line displays properly…the lines above and below are the "good" ones are shifted to the left and right. I also tried installing the Viper VLB drivers and changing the "Membase" variable in the registry as Dale St. Claire mentioned on 16-Nov-94 (Msg #97776). Same results…scrambled screen. Is the generic Weitek P9000 driver compatible with 1 Meg Vipers? I suspect it's not. I'd appreciate any other suggestions. —— Randy Weems <Red Herring Corp.> 25-Nov-1994 11:10

Randy, PMFJI but I have EXACTLY the same 1 Meg Viper VLB (rev A4) card and EXACTLY the same problem with Win NT 3.5's generic Weitek P9 drivers. I even upgraded from rev 1.12 BIOS to rev 1.14 BIOS with no improvement. You did an excellent job of describing what happens to to screen. I've also tried many things in the Registry with Membase variable etc. to no avail. I hope MS sees this and accomodates different memory sizes in the upcoming "fixed" Diamond Viper driver. Robert S. Microsoft's driver for the Viper for Windows NT 3.5, does not support the 1Mb Viper VLB cards. I do not have any information regarding whether or not Diamond is working on a driver to support the 1Mb version of the board. You may want to contact Microsoft regarding this issue.
