#Imagine 3.0 "lock up"

Mike(or anyone that might have any ideas)
I recently have been having a problem in Imagine 3.0 while in the
detail editor. When using the multi-mode to pick or edit objects, I often
encounter a "lock-up". The only way to escape this is to reset the computer. I
have discussed this with Greg tsadilas and he thinks that it may be caused by a
conflict with the mouse. I have ruled out the possibility of running out of
memory as it will happen even with a primitive sphere on the screen. I have a
486DX250 with 8 megs of ram, Dos 6.2,himem & emm386 are installed. I have the
Microsoft mouse driver v8.2. I have tried reinstalling Imagine, and am going
to try re-formatting my hard-drive and re-installing everything. I tried
temporarilly installing Imagine on a friends machine to see if I had a bad copy
but everything worked fine on his-which is the same as mine. I set everything
the same in my config.sys and autoexec.bat but the problem still remains. Any
ideas or suggestions would be appreciated

Do you have problems with any other programs?
If his is the same as yours, do you mean DOS 6.2, mouse and driver, etc? or
just the HW?
Try running "CHKDSK /F" and DEFRAG (use the full option) on your drive(s)
before you go and reformat.
You might also try looking at swapping some of your RAM banks around, and/or
running a RAM diagnostic. The one which runs when you boot really only tests to
see if there is RAM at a given memory location, not whether it is very
functional.

I solved the problem with Imagine locking up by reformatting my hard
drive and running everything without emm.386.Thanks for your input-Mike Gilbert

don't reformat your HD, it won't help. Many people have reported the problems
you described (including me). It's the mem management that doesn't work well
together with some machine setups or other software. Impulse reccometns to
boot bare with nothing but a mouse driver. When I had these problems I tried
it, but it didn't help, so it was not a software conflict.
I have never solved the problems 100%, but I have found a setup that seems to
be acceptable. What helped me was to properly set up my BIOS setup.
Unfortunately I can't tell you what the right BIOS setup is on your machine
since it depends very much on the configuration and the machine itselve.
The other problem is that these errors are hard to reproduce so it makes it
difficult to find what might cause the problem.
I've heard that 4.0 will have a different mem management and I guess these
problems will be gone, but I know that won't help you now 😐
So the god old advice "save often" is still valid <g>

I solved the problem with Imagine locking up by reformating my hardrive
and running everything without emm386. I'm not sure what the problem was, but
