Spectra of minerals
3 messages in this thread
Can anyone tell me where I can obtain spectral charts of various minerals?
Please "E" mail, Thanks!
Hi David,
Contact Doug Mitchell, sysop here in the geology section, as he will be
able to direct you to further info on this subject. I am the president of the
Fluorescent Mineral Society and we have published many charts of the spectral
curves of various fluorescent minerals. These are available if one wants to
join the society. Doug can direct you to the application forms here on CS for
you to download & peruse.

Hi, David–
Welcome to the forum!
Are you talking about spectra of mineral fluorescence, other kinds of
luminescence, light transmission or reflection, or something else?
About the only ones I can help with are UV fluorescence spectra (being like Rod
a collector of fluorescent minerals). Two books by Manuel Robbins and one long
out of print by Sterling Gleason ("Ultraviolet Guide to Minerals") have some
info on such spectra (naturally the best I remember were in the out of print
one), though it is limited, these being mainly for the amateur audience.
The Fluorescent Mineral Society is described in FMSKIT.ARC in this forum's
library. Back issues of the Journal of the FMS would have references to pro
articles on these matters; someday I mean to scan/OCR them into electronic
form, which should allow this to be found easily.
