Please, Henry, give us a break. Become cynical like the rest of us! It's just a
natural part of the Amiga culture. 🙂
Dan,

I'm sure glad that Jay Miner didn't have this attitude, or we wouldn't have an
Amiga culture to be cynical about ;-}

How can I be cynical when CEI is going to start production within the
month? You've all had over nine years to be cynical – you should be over
by now!!

The problem is reconciling any assets CEI might obtain with their loss of the
remaining engineer base. Particularly in light of the fact that even their
reduced bid with that in mind might take >30 days to see approval.

I have logged into the messae board everyday for the last 5 days at the same
time and I have not read one bit of information about what is going on. OK I
live in Switzerland so my time zone is different then The USA, but I think the
message here are being removed too soon without any consideration for people
who might be in different time zones. Now it seems to me somthing has happened
with CEI's bid, but for the life of me I haven't the faintest idea what. Maybe
somebody could tell me what time the messages are removed so I could call in
before that time and get the latest dope. I'm am very interested in finding
out what is happening but all I seem to get are messages that say "A yeah
right, I feel that way too". exit
Messages are not removed. There is a finite number of active messages and when
that limit is met the oldest is dropped off to the bit bucket. This is known
as a scroll rate. The current scroll rate in this forum is approximately 1
week.

The current story CEI is passing along is that an agreement with the
trustees should be signed "any day now" and then CEI will begin the
preparations for launching Amiga. CEI is planning on making a speech at
VTU Expo in LA next week, and I believe Alex Amor has been invited to
attend the forum here Sunday night.
BTW, Alex indicated he wanted to have 100+ programmers working by the end
of the year. It seems he's still on track.
Hank/Videology – Where you get all the P.O.M.P. under all

Henry,
Does Alex "want to", or is he "planning to" have the 100+ engineers
working by year-end? Big difference in meaning here. Does he have verbal
agreements with these people? Does he know who they might be? Or is he
going to start looking as soon as the ink is dry? Just trying to get a
better feel for the situation …

DJ,
CEI placed an ad in the Philadelphia Inquirer a couple of months ago looking
for software developers and engineers. He did this to get a feel for what type
of talent was still available in that area. He got over 1500 resumes.
Steve,
I take this as a good sign and proper initiative – I hope he's been
following up on those resumes. Thanks for the insight.

Hopefully we'll all get a better feeling for the situation when he
addresses the VTU expo members next week in LA. I saw the coverage of the
lastest World of Amiga in England and C=UK said they had signed and put
down a deposit. The mystery continues – –

Is it true that CEI's backers dropped out ?
I hope Alex is on line in the conference tonight,
some answer's are needed _now_.
If the consortium is still together, maybe it's time to
_lower_ the offer, just to let the debter's know that
the liquidators have dropped the ball one too many times.
It was their job to obtain the _highest_ amount for the creditors.
I wonder what happens when the delays cost the debters _everything_.
I am completely depressed, but not giving up untill Agnus sings.

Maybe I'll get some news next week at VTU Expo. Be back Friday morning.

"… until Agnus sings" – I never realized Agnus was a lady, but I really
hope she never sings. I think that's better left to Paula, anyway …

You should have seen the animation at Denver DevCon of Fat Agnus. They had her
wearing a red and white checked outfit, bouncing up and down off the walls. It
all looked vaguely familiar for some reason.
Hopefully she wasn't quite spherical. She wasn't singing, was she? That
would be a bad sign …

It's refering to that old saying about opera… "It ain't over till the
fat lady sings." Agnus is sometimes called "Fat Agnus"…

Jim, I was aware of the reference. My actual inquiry was towards Fat
Agnus' gender. It's hard to tell unless you can get the chip out and look
underneath <g>.

DJ,
Agnus is more than likely like angels, cherubs, and other non-worldly gender
challenged (er, non-specific gender) entities.
Jay Miner named the chip Agnus (rather than Agnes) in honor to "Agnus, Lamb of
God".

Getting 100+ programmers working before the end of the year will be quite a
task, one that I'm not sure is possible unless he already has them lined up.
I agree – maybe he was thinking of 1995.
Maybe I'll get an answer from him in Los Angeles at the VTU Expo.
Hank/Videology – Where you get all the P.O.M.P. under all

er, that oughta be *RE*launch, I think…
–Gabe
You're right, although it's been so long, it will feel like the first
launch. I keep seeing articles referring to the Toaster as the video
system running on the dead Amiga as CBM failed in April '94.

We'll see if you're cynical in a month when the situation remains the same! And
remember, I have an Opalvision, too. I have reason to be cynical!
I hope you're willing to become optimistic when the situation does change.

MORE than willing, believe me. I have defended the Amiga against "clonies"
until I was blue in the face. And I still do. After getting a 486 and working
with that joke they call Windows, I find myself running back to my good 'ole
A3000 to use a real OS. But, without software support and solid marketing, the
inferior machines will continue to reign. If and when the situation ACTUALLY
changes for the better, I will be back on my soap- box. I'm just sick and tired
of being strung-along. This is not being handled professionally. It's as if a
bunch of misguided children were in charge of the operation. We need real
business leadership backing the Amiga for a change.
> We need real business leadership backing the Amiga for a change.
AMEN! And oh what a change it would be…
Defending clonies until you're BLUE in the face – there's a certain poetry
in this B-)
