Thanks for the advice but I've already done that. It's *still* paging. When I press ?, 3ds reports that it can only see the same amount of memory that its used so far. Not the DMPI limit that I would expect. Does this happen for you too? Thanks again for the help, Paul Simpson – Hyperbolic –

Paul, That's normal. Make sure you have your DPMI limit set high under the os/2 dos settings and you will have no problems! OS/2's swap file is dynamic (based upon an applications needs.) Scott

Yes – 3ds does not report the DPMI limit in this case, bur rather only what it's used so far. It sounds like it's not 3ds that is swapping (right?), but rather os/2. Warp uses a different logic for controlling the swap file than was used in os/2 v2. Personally, I prefer the old way. Supposively the new way speeds things up, but it sure seems to be slower to me. Anyhow, have you tried increasing your initial swap file size in config.sys? I think the default is an initial size of 2 meg which is way too small. I think I started mine off at 8 meg, and now have it set to 32 meg. Seems to help, but every once in a while I'll hear some disk activity when I least expect it. Oh well… Why don't you send me the specs on your machine – # drives, amount of free disk space, and how much ram. I may be able to point out what needs to be tweaked. Welcome to the world of real operating systems <g>! Now if this was Unix, you'd just have to learn how to log onto your own machine as a superuser, run grep, renormalize your databases, and who knows what other dastardly commands. LAM
