Sony SLV-R1000

There have been a few suggestions and endorsements for the Sony SLV-R1000 and I
am interested in tracking one down. I have found the unit at B&H Photo and
Video in NYC. Can anyone suggest another reputable dealer for me to check out?
Mail order is OK or anything in the NY – Philly area will do. Thanks.

I'm looking to replace my Sony SLV-R5, predecessor to the SLV-R1000. I don't
know if I want another Sony VCR though. I had this one in the shop twice, both
for a bad power supply. That runs $200 each shot, though the first was under
warranty. I have it back now, but it isn't working right. It misses frames when
recording and stutters when using playback. It is were frustrating trying to
describe that problem to a tech.
For the price of the SLV-R1000 ($900-1000) you can get a couple JVC 4900's.
They run about $550.
Ironic message as I was looking to replace a JVC with a Sony. I've
had some audio problems with it. I'll have to ask about power supply
problems with the SLV-R100, haven't heard any bad words yet.

Both problems are probably isolated incidents, and probably not a good
indicator of the quality. But I am upset my Sony seems to have let me down.
