#3ds4 network problems
5 messages in this thread
This is sort of a shot in the dark, as this really isn't a problem with 3DS,
but with my network hardware. If anyone has suggestion, I could really use
them.
I've just set up a new pentium 90 and there is one rather frustrating problem.
When the network drivers are loaded, 3ds4 will either crash if attempting to
load as workstation, or reboot the machine if "3ds slave" is run from the
command line.
I have an Intel EtherExpress 16 card that I use in two other 486's on the same
network without any problems. I set up the 3ds files on the pentium exactly as
the other two machines. The problem only occurs if I load the network drivers,
as a standalone machine 3ds4 runs fine.

Hi Andrew,

I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with that card. However, it sounds like a memory
conflict. Are you using any exclusions with your memory manager? There may be
an address for the networking card that must be excluded .

You are right about the memory conflict. I used to have some extra settings
with emm386 that worked with the 486, but not with the Pentium.
Thanks,
Andrew.
I have 3DS running in slave mode on several machines, 2 of which are
P90's (Gateway 2000) with EtherExpress cards. One machine (the newer
of the 2) uses SPX and NETX while the other uses IPXODI drivers. I
seem to recall that the older machine didn't work with SPX, so you
may want to try the IPXODI drivers. Hope this helps…
Thanks. I had the odi drivers running, but it turned out that emm386.exe does
not like the same settings on a pentium that work on a 486. Who knows.
Andrew.
