Hello !! I'm a first time user of the Asoft fourm. It seems to be very nice. I am seeking advice on a recent purchase of mine. It is a book with CD-Rom called, 3D Studio Special Effects. I'm currently running a 486DX @ 33MHz with a 211 MB hard drive, and 4 MB of RAM. My question is this…Will I be able to use very much of the graphics contained on the disk at my present status ? B.T.W. I do have a CD-ROM player, but I haven't opened the disk yet !! :>

Welcome to Asoft. Yes, you'll probably get a lot of usage out of the book/CD! It is full of useful ideas/maps/meshes. Do you own 3DStudio? Do you have a 24-bit graphics card? If yes, then go for it. I'd suggest buying some more RAM, if you can afford it, but 4 meg should be OK.

I'm assuming you have 3d Studio – the book isn't much use without it. I wrote 3 of the chapters and I focused them on medium to advanced level users. Meaning people with quite a bit of a working knowledge of 3d Studio r3. Also, 2 of my 3 chapters require ownership of some new Yost Group IPAS routines.
