#Montage or D/vision

Hey folks, thanks for the new forum. Its nice to have one that's that's
desktop video only. Now — has anyone out there worked on one of the newer
Montages. I'm thinking of buying one in the next few days, and I wouldn't mind
a little feedback. My other choice is D/Vision 2.2. I'm looking for strong
list features coupled with ease of use. Any thoughts anyone might have would
be appreciated. One thing I don't want to hear from you Mac folk is "Get an
Avid." I believe you all that it is a great machine, but I am Pc based, and
plan to stay there.

I'm sorry but I don't have any experience with either the Montages or the
D/Vision systems. Hopefully someone else here can pipe up with opinions
or comments.
Is all of your work going to be off-line or do you also want to do some
on-line stuff too? I am familiar with the FAST Video Machine and their
Digital/Player Recorder and the neat thing about it is that you don't have
to render transitions as the DP/R board provides to digital inputs while
the Video Machine board does the titling, transitioning, etal.
If you have looked at the FAST DP/R system and decided on the Montage or
D/Vision systems instead of it, I would be highly interested in hereing
your reasoning for that decision. Learning all the time, you know….

Nothing against Avid, but most of the new NL editing products at the upcoming
NAB will be Windows-based (including an Avid product). I will admit that one
reason may be that developers may be waiting for a PCI buss PowerPC, but the
fact remains, Windows-based machines may be catching up (or may have caught up)
with Desktop Video.

Out here in California there a lot more D/Vision's than there are Montages.
D/Vision is a excellent offline tool. (Just make sure that you have a
"Approved" computer to run it on.
Just another note: Avid is going to release a windows version of Media Suite
Pro this summer, you might want to save your pennies. I am sure that the Avid
will be considerably more expensive that D/Vision.
If you're interested in a great deal on DVision Pro 2.2, purchase it as a
"gift" for yourself after Jan 1, 1995. TouchVision is offering a New Year
Special: Free ActionMedia II cards with the purchase of D/Vision PRO 2.2!
D/Vision Pro is $4,950 and the boards run $1,695. A great savings.

Intel is phasing out the AM2 card. It will be discontinued by this
time next year. That doesn't matter to me, though. If I can get two solid
years of use out of the equipment, I'll be more than happy. This time next
year, a number of desktop on-line systems will be available. I already have
the AM2 card, though I might be interested in another. D/Vision makes a very
good low cost pro system, and I don't think the buyer needs to be aware of
anything. Giving the AM2 cards away is quite a good break for anyone who is
looking for a decent off-line system. The only other low cost off-line DOS
system now out there is made by Montage — the company that invented NLE. It
also runs on the AM2 card.

so that I can get a backup pair. I hear you folks have some ultra cool stuff
coming Q2-3 next year. I hear you'll be shakin' some ground at NAB. Looking
