#Need A Capture Board!!

Hello everyone!
I was wondering if you or anyone could help me. I work at a Video Production
house and we are producing some video clips for a software developer. We have
to capture these clips to Windows AVI format at 15 FPS and around 200 by 120
and 16 bit color. We are looking for a 'Professional' card that strictly for
multimedia use that has good specs and is capable of capturing video at 60
Fields PS. Would I need to get a card that captured with 60fields / sec??
If this will only be for use in a Multimedia environment, should I worry about
60 fields PS and go for a more "cost-effective" card?

Hi John,
Garbage in == Garbage Out. Since you are going to be the "in" side, I
would say that you should take a good look at your budget and buy as much
quality as you can afford. You never know what the next client down the
road will want (768x480x16million colors at 60 fields per second).
You can buy Video Capture Cards today that will capture 30 frames per
second directly to AVI format, in 24-bit color, at 320×240 resolution, for
around $1000. That sounds like it would meet your needs but, like I say,
I think you might go for something like the Digital Processing Systems
Personal Animation Recorder with the TBC-IV for Video Capture. It will
capture 60 fields per second at 768×480 resolution, with 24-bit color.
The PAR board retails for about $2000, the TBC-IV for about $1000 and a
dedicated 1/2gigabyte to 1.7gigabyte hard-drive is going to run $350 on
up.

DPS's phone number is (606) 371-5533. The TBC-IV will allow you to input
Composite and/or Y-C video formats. They do have PAL versions, versus
NTSC, as well.

I have this card.
It has the capture card has component, S-Video y/c, and composite in
The PAR itsself has the same out.
However you will only be able to use the captured sequence with the PAR drive
in its own format if you do not have any software package that can process a
series of TGA files to AVI files.
You can export from the dedicated harddrive of the PAR in two fromats:
1. the PARs native ANI fromat, which is only usefull for backups but cannot be
used for anything else except on the par drive itsself for playing.
2. You can export as a series of TGA files but you would then need a program to
convert those to AVI, I currntly use 3D-Studio however I'm in no need for AVI I
mostly export to SCHS or VHS, and in exeptional cases to BetaSP.
However I can say quality of PAR is great I'm in PAL-land and get comprssion
ratio of about 8.4 to 1, which is nice and has already been used for Broadcast
national TV overhere, but only in adds? (NTSC compression is higher about 10 to
1)

Not that I know of, but you could ask the DPS representative by e-mail:

He is not always on line, due to the fact he goes to fairs for DPS, but he
might know if a SECAM version exists.

I have a Media Vision "Pro Movie Spectrum" capture card. I was using it in a
#*^ ISA bus machine and then I upgraded acouple of weeks ago to a 486 PCI bus
machine and the ISA bus is too slow and the BIOS is fixed so…. I can't use it
any more and I'm considering selling the MV board… I am located in Berkeley,
CA. I think it is probably worth about $75.00… so if you are interested let
me know…
the board will capture 15/24/30 fps at 80×60, 160×120 and frame cature at
320×240 and 640×480… (.AVI, .BMP formats) accepts S-Video IN, AVI to
