New York, or at least the Mohawk Valley and the area West from Utica to Buffalo
is one of the few places I know of where almost any rock outcrop is likely to
be fossiliferous. (The other two areas that I can think of are the Cincinnatti
Uplift area and the Balcones Escarpment in Texas). This is not to say that a
guidebook to localities isn't a good idea, but it's not really necessary.
If there are any localities you'd like checked out in the Champlain Valley
(after the snow melts in April), drop me a line. I'm mostly interested in the
Lower Cambrian on the Vermont side of the lake, which is a good thing, because
that's the side I live on. But it's only an hour's drive to the New York side
of Lake Champlain.
