#Introduction

Here's my introduction… Back in 1987 in the Amiga market, I started a
company called Syndesis Corporation. Our primary product was and still is
"InterChange," a program that translates between many different 3D file
formats. (If you're a Mac user, think of us as DeBabelizer for 3D; if you're a
PC user, think Hijaak for 3D.) A version of our translators are part of
LightWave, the 3D program in the Toaster. We're about to release the Windows
version of InterChange.
We also make CDROM collections of 3D models pre-translated to popular formats.
Many of the 3D models here in the libraries came from our discs.
I'm also a freelance writer for several magazines. This past summer, I wrote
and edited the 3D modeling and animation round-up cover story for AV Video
magazine, as well as the summer "tricorder" cover story on future platforms and
technologies for Digital Video magazine. Earlier this year, I wrote the DV
article on video conferencing systems, and last year, I compared several motion
JPEG boards for the PC. Years ago, I had a regular column in Compute magazine,
and I was the technical editor of an Amiga magazine.
As part of another company, I was one of the original designers and programmers
of the Windows illustration package "Harvard Draw," also known as the F/X part
of SPC's Harvard Graphics for Windows.
Obviously, I haven't had a real job in years. 🙂 I live in Jefferson, WI, a
two-stoplight farming town halfway between Madison and Milwaukee. I'm already
tired of my 3-minute commute to the office.
On my desk are four computers: a WinNT PC, a Mac, an SGI Indigo, and a
Toaster'd Amiga. All are networked and in regular use. If you've got
cross-platform file-conversion woes, I'm the guy to ask!
Welcome to the forum, John!
I am sure your insights and expertise will be an invaluable asset to us
all.

John,
I've followed your company's history since '88 when I first got my
Amiga. Ironically enough, I've always created alot of my own models in
Imagine, only using pixel 3D for crude conversions to LW when the Toaster
came out. I do most of my modelling (3D in general) in LW now that the
modeler is better.
I've heard nothing but praise for your software, and I hope to start
using it now that I'm looking to market some of my models in various
formats. Great to see you here.
