Unilearn Corp. out of Wilsonville Oregon (Portland) has created a family of products that allow trainers and courseware developers to create interactive videos. The Unilearn family is named: Kasey Developer – Hardware/Software that creates the videos Kasey Designer – the "authoring" system that does the work Kasey Viewer – The "learning workstation" that students/employees use to view, test, score and get certified on the courses they see. For courseware developers the tools allow you to develop for corporations the videos they always wanted but could not affored the "mega bucks" for using CD-ROM, CD-i, or multimedia in the true sense. These offerings start at $100,000 and climb depending on the quality of video you get.' The Unilearn Kasey Devleper ranges from $7500 to $17,500 which includes the 486 PC unit, the video boards, audio boards, KAsey Designer software, SVGS monitor, keyboard, speaker, mouse, and (3) Commercial grade SVHS decks for courseware development and authoring. The Unilearn Kasey Viewer is the "learning workstation" which includes the 486 PC, SVGA monitor, (1) SVHS deck, keyboard, speakers, mouse. The price of the viewers range from $3,000 – $5,000. Back to the courseware developers. With the Unilearn product, you cannot copy/duplicate tapes and each time the course is played, you earn the royalty. Therefore if the cost to view a OSHA or Customer Satisfaction tape (take the course) is $60, you determine the royalty. If 100 people view take the course and you code into the tape a $50 royalty, you get $5000. Much easier than charging $3,000 for the generic passive video and hope someone will buy it, watch it, and not copy it. OK, lots of information.
