I am just checking one last time before we purchase…. We are thinking about buying some machines w/ Diamond Stealth 64 PCI w/ 4MBRAM, and wanted to know what people think of these cards. We will be using them for: 24bit, 1024X768 Photoshop for Windows image editing. 1024×768, 1280×1024 AutoCAD for Windows. 24bit Rendering screen for 3DS rendering Does anybody have nay comments about it's use for these applications? Is the card supported by all of these applications at 24bit? Thanks in advance for any comments! -Mike.

I was in your shoes about 2 weeks ago!!! I went with the VIPER SE w 4Meg VRAM It supports all of these programs and so far I am very happy with performance! Good Luck, The Stealth 64 would have been my second choice!! Paul Boyd Phoenix

I'm using the Stealth 64 PCI w/4MB. In Windows, using the 2.20 drivers, things work without a hitch, even in 24-bit mode. However, I have one (minor) problem in 3D Studio (r4). In the materials editor, the text in the bottom half of the screen is fuzzy, as if the monitor convergence is off (it isn't). There's NO other adverse affect, near as I can tell. All the renderings turn out superbly, and there's no distortion apparent in any of the meshes when editing. The card is quite fast in both Windows and DOS. Because I need quick DOS performance, I opted for the Stealth 64 rather than the Viper, which has abysmal DOS performance. (Note that poor / great DOS performance has no effect on 3D Studio due to its use of special drivers.) Loyd Case

Fuzzy text? Is that some weird interaction between your specific monitor and card? Bummer. Is this a fast card? Would you have purchased the Viper if you were concentrating on Windows? I have heard others talk of the 4MB Viper, and a card from ATI. Any other feelings as to how this card compares to those? -Mike.

I recently ran Winbench 4.0 on a variety of cards. In 8-bit color, the Stealth 64 outpaced the competition, including ATI, Diamond's own Viper Pro and the Matrox Impression Plus. It was 20% faster than the nearest card. Loyd Case

How about in 24bit color?

The Stealth 64 will do 24-bit color up to 1152×864 resolution. I don't have a benchmark, but both 3DS and Winsows seem pretty snappy. Loyd
