#Intuition

I'm programming something in Intuition, and need help quick!
The problem is making a proportional gadget, like the ones that adjusts the
colour in preferences.
Can someone please leave me a message which would include a Gadget and
PropInfo structure of a workable proportional gadget. The rest of the
programming I can handle. I don't mind if these structures are in assembler or
C. Thanks A Lot!

I know the "REAL" programmers will burn me in effigy for suggesting this, but:
If you don't have it yet, I suggest Power Windows 2.0 as a REALLY nifty tool to
create Intuition windows, etc. A simple graphics interface lets you build the
qindow the way you want it, with all the different types of gadgets and
requesters, then spits out the source code for you in Manx C, Lattice C,
assembler, Modula 2— and soon Multi-Forth. You can even grab windows out of
currently running applications and see exactly how they were built. Power
Windows is one of the best ideas I've seen for programming tools on the Amiga,
and well worth the dough for making a programmer's life easier.

(…and now Leo Schwab is readying his flame-thrower in my direction…)
I agree with your assessment of Power Windows but disagree that 'real'
programmers would flame you for suggesting it's use. The 'real' programmers I
know are those who make a living from programming. Anything less is a hobby.
Time is money and Power Windows is one of those tools that will knock off 20-30
or more hours from your development time. Well worth the money.
I'm glad to hear you like Power Windows, too. I was partially kidding about
the "real" programmers, but my experience has been that some dyed-in-thewool
software designers like to do it "the hard way". I suppose it depends on how
close you are to a deadline, eh? (chuckle)
Power Windows sure looks neat to me, though!

Mike:
The real SCARY thing is the problems with visual copyright that the
"grab a window" mode will cause. Especially since PW even grabs the IMAGES
that make up image gadgets, etc.. I've been tempted to yank other people's
gadgets, but GreG Tsadilas has already taught me that that's a no-no. <grin> Of
course, there's always the question of ethics, but in an era of abundant
software piracy, you just can't count on those all the time.
I STILL really like the program, though. 🙂
Ariel
Ariel, I tought you that!? Gee! I don't remember! Now if I can only "teach"
the bigger boys that it's a "NO NO"!!! But, thats another story entirely. 🙂
GreG
I think the "grab other windows" feature is more of a learning tool than a way
to just get a window into a program. The temptation is probably there, though.
If I were programming, I wouldn't want my program to look like someone else's
anyway… I might borrow a conceptual idea, but the rest would be better the
way *I* envisioned it. You may be right, though– someone else might not see
it that way, and might just snatch someone else's user interface for his own!
Let's hope the Amiga community avoids doing naughty things like that!

Mike:
Hell man the 'real' programmers were the ones that started raving about
power windows first! 73, bill
Good! I can put away my asbestos suit, then!
–Mike
PowerWindows will save you so much time and frustration it is well worth the
price. Operating in the adjust and try it mode is a great way to miss a
deadline.
Bob
Who knows? As soon as they come out with a version of Power Windows that
supports MultiForth, even *I* may delve into a bit of Amiga programming….
