>CrossPC is not a good example. PC video is pretty straight forward, and >most definatley simple when you are taking CGA or monocrhome VGA like >PcTask supports (not sure about PCTask 3–haven't played with it). Show >me CrossPC or PCtask 3 emulating the sound blaster using the Amiga chipset >and then I might swallow your argument. It seems to me that emulating a >PC is far simplier than emulating a machine like Amiga with all of its >custom chips. We're not just talking Denise here.. but Agnes, Paula, >Denise, Ramsey, Buster and 8520s (and I am sure I have missed some). What >Jim is asking you to believe is that he can take a RISC processor (which >he hasn't named yet) and maybe multiples of them and emulate the entire >Amiga. Even if he could do it if asked–he couldn't do it in a time frame >that would matter to anyone, at least in IMHO. Why not, PC emulation within another OS is not easy. Ask IBM, and MicroSchluff they even have the source code, 100% of the hardware, but they are attempting to do it on top of another OS (OS/2 and Windoze NT) and they are not successfull maybe you know something they don't? >To emulate a mac is not that difficult to do on a 68000-based machine like >the Amiga. Not saying that I can do it—but saying it is not as hard as >doing what Jim described or doing his PC emulation that he claims to have >running. Why is that? Just because the CPU match does not make it easy. Plus Apple had problems when they decided to make the Mac II's because they wanted to run the OS using added hardware, most MicroSchluff product did not run in them. Plus why is it that it took 3-4 years for AMAX to have a good Mac emulator? You are saying they where incompetent as it should it been easy for them. Sorry, if I sound too hard, but it sounds that you are oppose to competition, just because… All I know that bot UUI and CEI like the Amiga and they think is powerfull enough to make them $$$. So let them battle it out. It will be GREAT! Eduard

Edward, I am not against competition. I just think that a market needs to be established before any real competition can exist. -mark= Otto Pilot Engaged..

>I am not against competition. I just think that a market needs to be >established before any real competition can exist. Mark The OS is now in revision 3.1, there is over 10,000 applications available, there is 5,000,000 machines out there. How much bigger does it need to get before the market is established. There usually is less than that before competition starts.

Eduard, I have to side with Mark in that emulating a system that has the same op codes and CPU architecture is definitely easier than trying to map out one set of op codes and internal architecture to a different one. A lot less work is involved, and the emulation efficiency will be greater. The Motorola architecture is much more straight forward. Of course having an Amiga emulate a clone is FAR easier than the converse <vbg>. DJ On AP from Queens, the thrill and excitement of the Big Apple Where the ice cream truck plays Helter Skelter …

>Of course having an Amiga emulate a clone is FAR easier than the converse ><vbg>. >DJ Yes I agree, but the emulation is just of some hardware, not the entire thing. Specially emulating the CPU which I heard even the POWER PC has problems. Eduard
