Anytime, Brian. By the by, the model # is 9632VP, not PA as in my other
msg.

Richard,
thanks! I'm adding that one to my list of hardware to buy since the
HST doesn't cover all the standards out there.

..now all we have to do is persuade CI$ to offer V.32 network service…

Brian –
USR also makes what they call a Dual Standard – it does 14.4K baud in
HST mode, and can also handle V.32 at 9600. Those two probably cover the
majority of the high-speed boards out there. It is, of course, more
expensive, but when I got mine they had a deal that if you could prove you
were a sysop of a BBS, you'd get one at just over half list. List then was
about $1500.

Harry,
I am the sysop of a board, which is how I got my HST so cheap. I just
don't want to turn around and upgrade to the 14.4K Dual Standard. Just my
idea, I guess.

You might want to look into the Telebits Trailblazer, as the Amiga
is moving into the Unix world now, and with Unix will come UUCP (actually
for some it's here already) and the Telebits modem has built in UUCP g
protocol spoofing. That is when 2 computers are xfering using the g
protocol, the 2 modems (if both telebits) will fall into their own much
faster protocol, and to the 2 computers it looks as if it's just another
UUCP-g transfer. The modem also does this for Xmodem protocol. I also want
to add that I have no hands on experience with this modem but have been
told that it's the predominent modem in the Unix world.

I have done just a little bit of ftp-ing with the Telebit modem at SMU. It
was so fast I could hardly believe what I was seeing. A file something
like 500K long took only seconds to transmit.

Betty:
yes, that's what i've been told. I don't think that it has any
built in emulations (what the company calls spoofing) for ftp, and it's
still fast. I'm going to start saving my pennies, and that's high on my
list of things to get! Seems like I've always been into fast modems (sort
of like others being into fast cars??) as I was one of the first in my area
of Long Island NY to have a 212A modem (yes, a 212A, the compatible was
left off intentionally) and as a matter of fact, I still have it. back then
1200 baud was zipping right along, and the avarage was 300.
