#Diagnosis Anyone?

My friend has a 3000. There seem to be several "hot spots" on the screen where
the mouse pointer will suddenly jump back and forth horizontally. I've tried
different mice, but there was no change. My questions are:
1) Could this be caused by the dreaded finicky 8520 chips and if so,
2) Can I fix this by popping the 8520s out of an old 500 and dropping them
into the 3000? Also, where are the chips located?

If it is the same place on the screen, that is quite a bizzare problem! I would
doubt that it could be hardware at all.
If the mouse is just jumping around, make sure to try a different mouse and or
clean the old one first.
A500 8520s are the same as A3000 8520s. I don't remember where they are, b t
they are clearly labeled.
It happens intermittently, but when it does happen, it always happens in the
same screen locations. I tried another mouse, but the same problem occurs.
Could the 8520s somehow be responsible?

The 8520s have absolutely no way whatsoever to figure out any position on th
screen. They know when the mouse is moving up, down, right, left or sidewa s,
but it is software that translates that to pointer positioning. I can't imagine
how "it always happens in the same screen locations" could b
hardware. But then, I'm just a software guy…
