Having just read Erik Flom's review of VLAB at VTU, I would agree. Since
the system requirements indicated only have the data speed of the Flyer,
you know you're getting only half the data (i.e. resolution). Since the
VLAB uses MPEG, a compression method not as suitable for video as VTASC,
it loses on quality again.
Unfortunately, the best sound sync seems to be Sunrize's. Maybe you can
still get an AD516 at the sellout noted $99. I think they we're closing it
out and, as a previous message indicated, it is still supported with
Studio 16.

Let's not blow this out of proportion.
I only stated a few short opinions about the product. Since I'm not
interested in that level of NLE, I really didn't pay much attention to it.
My main conclusion was that it _might_ have looked a little better than
S-VHS, but it was hard to tell. (The monitors they were using looked out
of adjustment, though it might have been just the video.)
BTW, wht's this about my last name? (Do you also have Nordic ancestors? Do
_you_ know the difference between lutefisk and lefsa? :^)

Lutefisk was what the vikings used as a last resort to overwhelm the
enemy, and lefsa was used to strengthen their shields if the enemy wisely
wore clothes pins on their nosens. *8^)

The following is the fault of my depraved sense of Norwegian humour.
Here are some other uses for lefse:
* Roofing the house
* Patching up old jeans
* The original (but deadlier) frisbee
* Replacement for airbags in the car. Indestructable, the soft stack of
lefse cushions the impact and gives you something to snack on until help
arrives. They also give your teeth a real workout.
* Bind a few together to make terrific manhole covers.
* And I could go on forever, but I want to spare your sanity…
And THEN there's lutefisk:
* Can turn the average person's tastebuds to stone. Not very useful.
* Kids use them in school instead of traditional stink bombs.
* Mom disciplines the kids. "Spare the lutefisk and spoil the child."
* Hang some outside the front door to keep solicitors away. In fact, it
works so well, it keeps everyone away. Useful for loners.
* The best anti-terrorist weapon. Used by all major airlines.
* And I can go on, but by now, you're almost past hope of recovery…

I remember how my grandfather used to go on about the virtues of his
beloved lutefisk and what the rest of us were missing…
… Of course, he was 90 and I was in my 20's, so what did he have to
worry about? He'd already lived a full life… *8^/

lutefisk! *8^D

VLAB actually uses Motion JPEG, so at least they don't have the problems
associated with the MPEG-I data format.
One thing I think I forgot ot mention was that it looked like they were
using a 'letterbox' version of T2. By using letterboxed video, there's
less data, meaning they'd be able to turn up the quality of the JPEG
compression…..
